Trinity Hartell’s life changed after the accident. Left with irreversible brain damage, she becomes a burden to her mother, a cause for heartbreak for her boyfriend Zack, and a flattened obstacle for her best friend, Ellie. But then she starts writing. Perhaps it’s a coincidence that the psychotic, murdering protagonist of her novel bears a striking similarity to the charming Wiley Dalton, a mayoral candidate in the upcoming election.Or, perhaps not...
I was asked by the author Clare Marshall to read her debut novel, Within. I took one look at the book cover and knew I had to read this book. The cover is just lovely and the colors are so elegant not to mention purple being my favorite color. Besides the cover, I really loved the synopsis of Within and the whole story idea behind this book. Let me tell you that I am glad I said yes. Within is such a beautiful, yet heartbreaking tale of a young girl who's life changes so completely in such a short time - Leaving her family and friends feeling hopeless.
The story begins with three friends, Trinity, Ellie and Zack. Trinity is dating Zack, while Ellie is secretly in love with Zack but wont risk telling the couple and create friction between there friendship. On the way home while Ellie is driving and Zack and Trinity are in car they are suddenly hit by a truck. Everyone seems to be okay, but once they all reach the hospital Ellie and Zack are told that Trinity is badly hurt and in a coma. Zack will not leave her bedside for anything and prays that she will wake up and come back to him. But on one afternoon Trinity does awaken only to not know who the boy next to her is. Amnesia? No, there is much more to what is going on in her brain than anyone would have guess? Now, while Zack is heartbroken and Ellie is trying to comfort him; very weird things begin to happen with Trinity. She begins to write stories and not the good kind but ones that will soon lead to the undoing of someone very bad within there town. Stories of things that have happen in the past and are taking place in the present as she writes.
I really enjoyed the concept of this book. It was new and original. I found myself really wanting to know what would happen next and what the stories that she was writing would lead to. Within has a lot of mystery and romance. I love reading about the relationship between Zack and Trinity. I felt so bad once I found out that she would be forever changed and never really know who he and Ellie were. Even know some parts of the book were kind of slow I did understand that there needed to be a back story on some of the character's and added info about what was going on in Trinity's brain when she hurt it. I did however very much enjoy the two sided parts of the book, where I would read about Trinity, Zack and Ellie and then go into plot change to where you learn about this evil that is plaguing there city. The ending was definitely great and worth reading the book. I would so recommend Within to any Tween - YA readers, as well as adults. The Author Clare Marshall has done a brilliant job for her first book and I hope to read more from her in the future.
Thanks for participating in my tour Beckie! :)
