Book Blitz: Inspired (book #1 of the Firefly Tribe) by Susan Schaefer Bernardo + Giveaway!

Hello everyone and welcome
to the BOOK BLITZ for
Inspired (book #1 of the Firefly Tribe)
by Susan Schaefer Bernardo!

Inspired
by Susan Schaefer Bernardo
Genre: MG/YA Fantasy/Mythology
Release Date: May 2018
Inner Flower Child Books

Rocket Malone is not thrilled with the direction her life is taking. Her mom has just remarried, and they are moving from their hip cottage in Venice Beach to her stepfather’s home in Hollywood. Her best friend, Gillian, has a new friend and a new boyfriend, and Rocket feels left behind. When she finds out that her mother is pregnant with twins, she is furious.

All of these problems are quickly overshadowed when Rocket discovers that she is descended from the Greek muses, and is therefore obligated to serve as an apprentice to the nine mythological sisters. Rocket sees herself as smart but not creative, and apprenticing to the muses does not come naturally to her. She tries to help several people, but just cannot find the right person to aid.

Along with the fun, intelligent story about Greek gods, muses, and other mythological figures, Inspired captures the trials and tribulations of discovering oneself while dealing with the challenges of middle school. Rocket does not want her life to change, but she must adapt, learning to share her mom and her best friend while finding new ways to create her own joy.

Rocket and her friends have some very serious problems. Rocket’s father committed suicide; her mother is in the midst of a high-risk pregnancy. Her friend Ryan lost his sister in a car accident and then was abandoned by his father; the home he shares with his mother is destroyed in a fire. These issues are thoughtfully addressed in the story as the adolescents learn not to blame themselves, to accept what is, and to help one another through the hardest parts.

Inspired is delightful, insightful, and charming as it encourages kids to face their obstacles and chase their own passions.

Hello! My name is Susan Schaefer Bernardo, and I’ve been writing poetry and stories since I could hold a crayon! I am a big believer in the power of creativity. The process of writing poetry or making art allows me to express and understand my emotions. Through our imagination, we find ways to move through painful experiences and transform them into something very beautiful and healing.

I wrote my first book Sun Kisses, Moon Hugs because I wanted to reassure my kids (and myself!) that we are always connected to the people we love. Writing my poem “Tonic Waters” helped me cope with grief over my mother-in-law’s death. I was so honored when “Tonic Waters” was published in an anthology and read aloud at the 2014 World Cancer Day Concert – because it meant my words might console others experiencing similar pain. I’m currently finishing my first YA novel for girls, and I've just finished collaborating on a wonderful new book to support children who have suffered a traumatic event.

I love to learn just as much as I love to teach, and I hold a B.A. in English (UCLA), M.A. in English Literature (Yale) and elementary/secondary teaching credentials (Pepperdine). I keep my inner flower child happy and inspired by sculpting, dancing, exploring tide pools, raising chickens in the city, traveling to cool new places (and attempting to speak the language, even if it's just please and thank you), and taking long nature walks with my sons and our rescue terrier Poppy. I'm happiest when I'm barefoot and surrounded by beauty.

Dan Poblocki is an American author of mystery and horror novels for young people. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island. During his pre-teen years, his family moved to Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Dan currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with two scaredy cats.

Dan graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in theater. Subsequently, he toured the United States playing ultra-challenging roles such as Ichabod Crane in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Shoemaker in The Shoemaker and the Elves to packed houses filled with literally thousands of screaming children. (He hopes they weren’t screaming in fear.)

Dan ended his promising acting career to focus on other endeavors. While exploring various artistic options, he held a number of jobs in New York City including: a floral groomer, an audience-wrangler for a popular game show, a computer analyst, a chemotherapy-unit assistant, and a traveling bathing suit sales-dude.

That’s right. A traveling bathing suit sales-dude.

Dan now writes full time. He's probably working on something new this very minute!

Title: Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood
Author: Liesl Shurtliff
Publisher: Random House Kids
Release Date: April 12th, 2016
Genre: Middle-Grade > Fairytale retelling

Source: Publisher (print ARC)

Red is not afraid of the big bad wolf. She’s not afraid of anything . . . except magic. But when Red’s granny falls ill, it seems that only magic can save her, and fearless Red is forced to confront her one weakness.

With the help of a blond, porridge-sampling nuisance called Goldie, Red goes on a quest to cure Granny. Her journey takes her through dwarves’ caverns to a haunted well and a beast’s castle. All the while, Red and Goldie are followed by a wolf and a huntsman—two mortal enemies who seek the girls’ help to defeat each other. And one of them just might have the magical solution Red is looking for. . . .

Liesl Shurtliff weaves a spellbinding tale, shining the spotlight on a beloved character from her award-winning debut, Rump.
Pre-order/purchase at: Amazon | B&N

We all know the tale of little red riding hood. Red goes off to Grandma's house in the woods and falls prey to the big bad wolf. In THIS story, Red tells us what really went down

While Red's parents are away she stays with her Grandma. Red's Grandma loves to teach her magic even if every time Red tries something bad ends up happening. Red has decided to give up learning magic altogether. Until one day Grandma falls ill and Red must go out into the woods to collect ingredients for an all-cure potion. While collecting her items, she comes across a girl with golden curly locks, Goldie. Goldie joins Red in hopes to help out and along the way she discovers there may be a way to not only cure her Grandma but make it so she lives forever. Red is told there are 3 items within the woods that can create immortality but what one will work? On Red's journey to find these magical items she is faced with many challenges, new friends, and foes but more so she comes to find a strength in herself she never knew existed.

Will Red find a way to save her Grannie? Or will finding the magic items be the least of her worries? Something evil is lurking nearby...and this time, it's NOT the wolf.

Wow! Talk about your fantasy books! Red was everything you'd expect from a fantasy story and more. The world building was simply amazing! There was so much always going on, a twist here, a turn there. The secondary characters, such a Goldie, Wolf, and Beast were all brilliantly captured and written into the story. The story held my attention and did not let go. I was totally lost in Red's world and excited to find out what would happen next. One of the main things I loved about the book was how different this retelling of red riding hood it is. I never expected the author to take the story in places she did. Author Liesl Shurtliff took the simple classic story of a girl visiting her Grandma and finding the wolf and remarkably warped it into something so much more!  I will definitely be checking out all of the other books in the series.

Without a doubtRed: The True Story of Red Riding Hood by Liesl Shurtliff is one of my favorite read of 2016 so far! For a middle-grade novel, it really is quite amazing! I so recommend it to everyone! If you enjoy books with a ton of adventure, magic, epic world-building, and fun and likable characters then this book is a MUST-READ!

4.5 STARS - Totally Awesome! I loved it, would read again.

Liesl Shurtliff was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the mountains for her playground. Just like Rump, Liesl was shy about her name, growing up. Not only did it rhyme with weasel, she could never find it on any of those personalized key chains in gift shops. But over the years she’s grown to love having an unusual name—and today she wouldn’t change it for the world!
Before she became a writer, Liesl graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in music, dance, and theater. She now lives in Chicago with her husband and three young children, where she still dreams of the mountains. Rump is her first novel.
