I was contacted by Amber Delaine the author of Haunt a few weeks ago and she asked me to read and review her book Haunt. Haunt is a paranormal romance novel for YA and up. After reading the short summary Amber sent about her new book, Haunt I was so wanting to read this book. It sounded like a fun read. So here is my review of her book, Haunt. Thank you Amber for the book. : )

Artist Megan Nelson has never lived anywhere but the tiny Texas town in which she grew up. There is one bus, one corner store and everybody knows everybody. So when a stranger shows up, Megan is more than curious.

Adam is more than he seems: beautiful and strange. Megan soon finds herself falling in love with him as she learns who he is and where he comes from.

But being with Adam comes with a price. The closer Megan gets to Adam, the more she begins to realize that he holds a dark secret which threatens to tear apart everything she has ever known.

On top of it, Megan is plagued with guilt over her best friend, Tony. As her new love life puts a strain on their old friendship, Megan learns how love can help her overcome her terrifying circumstances and change the rest of her life.

My Thoughts: (I gave the book 4 Stars)

Haunt starts out where you meet a nice, simple girl from a small town in Texas. Her name is Megan and she has a passion for painting, hoping one day to become artist. Her best friend is a great guy named Tony who she has known most of her life. Megan is about to graduate high school soon and leave for a long road trip with Tony. One morning Megan wakes up late and in the rush of getting ready forgets her homework inside a book she was reading the day before. Doomed to fail, and being so close to the end of the school year this was not Meagan's day. After school she needs to get away from the looming stress so decides to go a playground from her childhood and after crying a while feels a presence near her only to find a gorgeous boy her age watching her. Without giving to much away, later Megan finds that this boy "Adam" cannot speak, but why? She is strangely draw to Adam more and more. Falling in love or lust with him in such short time. Who is Adam, why can't he speak and why after only knowing him for a few short days does Megan now face with more than she ever thought possible? Nearing the ending of the book Megan finds herself in need of Tony's help to find out the answers to these questions and in the progress starts to build a love relationship with Tony, one she never knew existed. Haunt is a face pace novel which will take you a roller-coaster ride of emotions. I kept asking myself, Who is Adam, why are these beyond odd occurrences keep happening to Megan?  The answers you find while reading Haunt will leave you guessing.  A very fun read for Young Adult - Adult readers. One that will leave you wanting more. I really enjoyed reading Haunt, very fun. The only reason I did not give the book 5 stars is because I was not sure why the title was named "Haunt".  I was not sure what it was referring to in reference to the novel itself, other than that I love the book and the plot. :) A very exciting novel for anyone who like the paranormal romance genre.

Hi Patti. Thank you for being here to do a interview with me about your new book, Paradox "The Angels Are Here. I am sure my readers would love to know all about your book and yourself. After reading Paradox I must say I really loved it. I am sure my readers would too so without any futher ado on with the questions about you book. 

Q. When did you first start writing, Paradox? And did the idea for the book just come to you?

A: I started in 2009 so it took me roughly 2 years to put the first book (Novella) together.

I was inspired to write the series by what I didn’t know.  By the questions we as humans have asked ourselves since the beginning of time.  Where did we come from, what happens after death?  Is there a heaven?  Do our souls live on?


Q. Was there any research involved in writing the book esp when the times were in the very early centuries?

A. I think I have done just as much research for the series of Paradox books as I have done writing the story.  Although a lot of that will not actually be evident until further along in the series.  I love writing Grace’s flashbacks of Juliette’s past lives.  I love going back in time and delving into historical events that have shaped our world.  And hopefully bring some of them back to life throughout this story via the characters.


Q. Were any of your characters based off of someone you know or the names of the characters?

A: The characters in the Paradox Series are not based on anyone I know personally.  Some of their traits and experiences are, however, influenced by people I have met.  Mostly on an unintentional level.  It isn’t until I reread some of my characters lines that I have sometimes thought – Oh, that reminds me of ….


Q. Was it at all difficult to write about such loss and heartache through out the book?

A: Surprisingly, no.  I was going through an emotional stage of my life at the time and if anything it allowed me to really “feel” Grace’s loss and put it into words.  I really believe that I would never have been able to achieve that if I wasn’t in that “place” in my life and if I hadn’t gone through something like that myself.  I focused very much on the death of my own mother a few years ago; Mum was very much looking over my shoulder as I wrote it.


Q. As you were writing Paradox did you ever have writers block or did you already somewhat know what the story-line would be before you put the words on paper?

A: I have never had writers block.  I have so many stories to tell that if anything sometimes I wonder where to start and where to leave off and cut to another scene.  Some people have said that Paradox – The Angels Are Here jumps around during the telling of the story.  And maybe it does.  That is how the story unfolded to me while I wrote it and how Juliette tells it – as she remembers it.

When people are sitting around telling stories, I think that is how it happens.  Suddenly you remember something from the past, because of something someone else has said, and regardless to where the story is at; you jump in and add it because you know that further on into the story, it is going to be important.  It is very much Juliette’s story now.  I just have the pleasure in writing it.


Q. What age groups do you recommend for the readers of Paradox?

A:  I say 14 and up.  Some would say that some of the subject matters are for an older audience but I disagree.  It wasn’t that long a go in history that a 14 year old girl was old enough to wed and expected to bear children.  In some cultures today they are very much considered adults.   History has also shown us that in order to keep bloodlines “pure” it was nothing if not expected for brother and sister to produce an heir.  Thankfully, the society that most of us live in today does not applaud or encourage this way of life.


Q. I adore the cover, very beautiful. Who designed the cover and did you have any say in what you wanted it to look like?

A: Being an indie author I was very much solely responsible for the look of the cover.  I searched numerous sites until I found the artwork by the very talented Hazel Brown.  Then I added the heart, feather and text.

Q. Do you have any future plans for Grace and her family & friends with another book?

A:  The Paradox saga is a series of books.  The first book – The Angels Are Here – was an introductory into the series and is a Novella.  The second in the series – Progeny Of Innocence - is a novel and is due out in November.  The third – Bound By Blood – is due out in 2012 with more to follow the following year.


Q. What was the most difficult part writing the book? Do you have anything you wish you could go back and change?

A: The only thing hard about writing in general is time.  If I could lock myself up and concentrate on only writing that would be great.  But my friends would think I had gone completely mad and would probably try and have me committed.


Q. Last but not least, did anyone inspire you to write Paradox "The Angels Are Here"?

A:  Yes and no.  I had just recently gone through a break-up and was terribly “lost”.  I see now that the break-up was an incredible gift.  It handed me the opportunity to focus on other things which I would otherwise had never done.  And those other things turned out to be writing.  The break-up, unbeknown to me at the time, turned out to be my cloud with a silver lining.  Writing has been such wonderful therapy; I have never looked back and I have never been happier.

It took me a day to decide who this weeks Book Boyfriend would be and then I was going through some of my books to pack for moving, and it hit me. James Stark from the House of Night books. For anyone who has not read this series I so would recommend you do they are awesome! I still have to read the last couple books but I feel in love with Starks character as soon as he was introduced into the book "Untamed". James Stark arrives at the Tulsa House of Night from the Chicago House of Night, after an incident that resulted in the death of his former mentor (Will). Stark's gift from Nyx is his perfect accuracy, though his gift is a double edged sword. He is capable of never missing his true target in his heart and mind, not necessarily the object in his eye sight. If you have read these books you know Stark has a heart of Gold. You just want to step into Zoey shoe's and have someone love you so whole heartedly. When the world is crashing down at your feet, Stark is there to pick you you and be there for you. This week James Stark is my Book Boyfriend because I would need a hero like him to rescue me from all the evil things in the world and keep my bad dreams away.

I'm a Lucky Ducky!

Eeep, I am so excited because today I got my books in the mail that I won from the Blogfest 2011 I participated in about a week ago. I won the "Wolfs of Mercy Falls" series written by Maggie Stiefvater.  All of the books are signed by her and I also won a keychain too. :) Yay! I am so happy.
