Blog Tour: The Half Life of Molly Pierce by Katrina Leno | Guest Post + Giveaway!

The Half Life of Molly Pierce
by Katrina Leno
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: July 8th 2014

You take it for granted. Waking up. Going to school, talking to your friends. Watching a show on television or reading a book or going out to lunch.

You take for granted going to sleep at night, getting up the next day, and remembering everything that happened to you before you closed your eyes.

You live and you remember.

Me, I live and I forget.

But now—now I am remembering.

For all of her seventeen years, Molly feels like she’s missed bits and pieces of her life. Now, she’s figuring out why. Now, she’s remembering her own secrets. And in doing so, Molly uncovers the separate life she seems to have led…and the love that she can’t let go.

The Half Life of Molly Pierce is a suspenseful, evocative psychological mystery about uncovering the secrets of our pasts, facing the unknowns of our futures, and accepting our whole selves.

Name 10 books on your book bucket list.

What a cool subject for a post! This was hard to narrow down!

1. MIDNIGHT’S CHILDREN (Salman Rushdie)
I had to read this one in school, once, but it was a long long time ago and it wasn’t the right time for me to be reading the book. I could tell how brilliant it was, but I was young and bored and I wasn’t really paying as much attention as I should have. And I don’t think I actually finished it.

2. THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER AND CLAY (Michael Chabon)
I started this but couldn’t get into it. But everyone who’s ever read it says it’s the most brilliant book ever, so I clearly need to give it another try.

3. THE HANDMAID’S TALE (Margaret Atwood)
Margaret Atwood is amazing. Why haven’t I read this yet? I’m embarrassed that I haven’t read this yet.

4. THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy)
This is my boyfriend’s favorite book. I know I need to read it, but it just seems so BLEAK. I need to save it for one of those days where I can read it in one sitting and just get all the feels out of the way.

5. THE SUN ALSO RISES (Ernest Hemingway)
Hemingway is gorgeous, but you have to be in the right mood.

6. THE WIND-UP BIRD CHRONICLE (Haruki Murakami)
I haven’t read any Murakami. I think I would absolutely love him.

7. THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING (Joan Didion)
Also embarrassed I’ve never read this. Making this list is making me ashamed.

8. ANNE FRANK: THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL
I never had to read this for school. And for obvious incredibly depressing reasons, I’ve found it hard to find the motivation to pick it up now. But I need to read it. And I will.

9. I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS (Maya Angelou)
We lost an incredibly powerful, passionate woman recently. I should give her writing more time than I have in the past.

10. ANIMAL FARM (George Orwell)
I never had to read this either! I guess I went to a silly school. Doesn’t everyone have to read this?

“A smart, seductive page turner, deeply felt and full of surprises.” (Madeleine George, author of The Difference Between You and Me)

“Unfolds its careful origami slowly and hypnotically, taking on one shape after another before finally revealing itself as something stranger and more beautiful than I’d anticipated. A moving, expertly wrought story that will keep surprising you past the last page.” (Bennet Madison, author of September Girls)

“A Tilt-A-Whirl of a first novel, a breathtaking thrill ride that takes you in one direction and then spins you off in another, over and over, keeping you guessing with every turn of the page.” (Michael Thomas Ford, author of Suicide Notes)

“With a distinct and mysterious voice that matches its mood, The Half Life of Molly Pierce will pull you into Molly’s—and Mabel’s—world.” (April Henry, New York Times bestselling author of Girl, Stolen)

Unleashed by Sophie Jordan
Series: Uninvited #2
Published by HarperTeen on February 24th 2015
Genres: YA - Dystopian

What if the worst thing you ever did was unforgivable?

Davy’s world fell apart after she tested positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome. She was expelled from her school, dumped by her boyfriend, abandoned by friends, and shipped off to a camp that turns HTS carriers into soldiers. Davy may have escaped, but the damage has already been done. The unthinkable has happened. Now, even worse than having everyone else see her as a monster is the knowledge that they may have been right about her all along. Because Davy has killed.

On the run from government agents, Davy is rescued by Caden, the charismatic leader of an underground group of rebels. Despite Caden’s assurances that the Resistance is made up of carriers like her, Davy isn’t sure she can trust them. Then again, she doesn’t even know if she can trust herself . . . or her growing feelings for Caden. But if she doesn’t belong with Caden and his followers, is there anywhere she can call home?

UNLEASHED mini-teaser:
I thought being labeled a killer and losing everything—my future, family, boyfriend, friends—was the worst thing that could ever happen to me. It’s not. Finding out they were right. Finding out that’s exactly what I am?

That’s worse.

Oooh! I love the new cover! PURPLE!! Yes, I'm a huge fan of purple covers. I also am excited to see the DNA in the hair look was used again. Very awesome! What are YOUR thoughts on the cover?

Small Hiatus!

Hello friends! :)

As some of you may have recently seen there has not been a lot going on lately. For this I am sorry. Summer is always super busy for me outside of my blog. Family visiting, taking vacations and just hanging out by the pool. This coming weekend I am going to ConTemporal (a steampunk convention). It's my first time going and I am so excited! I even have a amazing Steampunk costume. I will be sure to take pictures. ;) Also, there is bound to be some authors who write Steampunk attending. I can't wait to see who.

On Sunday my Grandparents are coming from Florida to visit here in NC. They will be staying for a week. While everyone is visiting our family is planning on going to Carowinds Theme Park. Whoo Hoo!

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know I will be on break for about a week or so. I still plan on doing my scheduled posts, closing giveaways and maybe some others when free time permits but other than that I'll be pretty busy having fun! =)

So hang in there, I'll be back soon...

Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. The plush terry cloth robe slipped from Ireland’s shoulders with a whispering caress before pooling in a heap around her ankles. Marble tiles chilled her bare feet as she stepped into the walk-in shower. The tips of her fingers slid across stainless steel. With a flick of her wrist, the trio of showerheads flowed to life. Welcoming heat came at her from all angles, pulsating over her curves with a rhythmic seduction. Ireland turned, a groan escaping her as the streams massaged all the right places. Steam rose, fogging the handle and creating a cloud of humidity that hugged her frame. Tipping her head back, she let the droplets rain down on her face and across her closed lids. Her lips parted, welcoming the rush of warmth that flooded between them. Until it assaulted her tongue with a rush of coppery warmth that clamped her throat shut with a wretched heave. Her hands cupped to catch the droplets, her eyes widening as thick crimson pooled in her palms, seeping between her ivory fingers. Formerly white tiles were now smattered and smeared with blackish-red gore that sprayed from the nozzles. Ireland threw herself from the shower, her feet slipping beneath her. She reached out to steady herself, but found nothing to hold on to. Nothing there to pull her back from the brink, except her own need for self-preservation … and a shadowed silhouette in the corner. Instinctively, she covered herself with her arms. Squinting, she craned her neck to see the figure that was slowly turning to face her.
“Mason?” Her voice echoed around her before she could even speak it.
He stared straight ahead with fixed, unseeing eyes. Blood trailed down his face from various points of origin, soaking the front of his shirt. “Cloak of night, brings Horseman’s plight. His pricy toll, will be a soul.”
“Mason? Are you okay?”
A hard blink and his eyes found focus on her. A desperate panic flared his nostrils, forcing his breath to come fast and ragged. “Help me, you have to help me,” he pleaded, his teeth pink with the blood that streamed past his lips.
Her trembling hand reached for him, then recoiled at her own inept state of confusion. “H-how? What do I do?”
“You have to save us,” Mason’s words became more garbled by the fresh rush of gore that bubbled up the back of his throat. His once handsome face contorted in rage. Leaning forward he balled his fists and screamed with a force that bulged the tendons of his neck, “Save us!”

There is nothing worse than being put on the spot and asked to talk about yourself. For me it brings back that inevitable moment in a new school when the teacher would ask me to stand up, introduce myself and tell the class something about myself. I was always worried I would blurt out something stupid that I would get teased for. Something like, “My name’s Stacey and I like pickles!” Then for the rest of the school year I’d be known as the Pickle Girl and let’s be honest, no one wants that. So to avoid such a faux pas I will simply say that I love to write. It allows me to get my crazy out just enough that I can function as a normal member of society.

Hi Susanne - Thank you ever so much for stopping by my blog today. :) It's an honor to have you.
Thank you for having me on your blog!

1. Name 3 things about yourself that your readers may not know? (ex. I can't swim or my favorite candy is nerds)

I HATE riding the bicycle. The last time I had to do it was about 15 years ago and all the scars on my body are from bicycle accidents.
I married my first love.
My mother is from Bosnia.

2. Name a few of your favorite lines from IMPOSTOR or DEFECTOR (tease us?)

“Usually when I touched someone, there was a certain kind of energy, a unique presence I could feel; but with Madison I felt nothing. Still, as I stood there among the beeping machines, I could feel my body absorb her data.” – Impostor
“Soon, I’d be able to copy her perfectly despite the fact that I didn’t yet know anything about her – not about her worries, her fears, or her dreams. I’d be nothing but a hollow imitation of the girl she used to be.” – Impostor
“I wrapped my arms around my chest, as if that could stop him from looking into my heart, from seeing everything I didn’t want him or anyone else to know. “ – Defector
“There was a stillness to his face that should have scared me, warned me of the fury that was simmering beneath his controlled mask.” – Defector

3. Do you have a favorite character in either book which you felt was the most fun to write about?

I think the most fun to write was Major, because he’s somewhat of a mystery to the reader. But of course I LOVED writing Tessa, or I wouldn’t have chosen her as my main character.

4. Use DEFECTOR in a Acronym using words to describe your book.

Wow, this is more difficult than I thought, but here it is:
D - Dangerous
E - Emotional
F – Fast-paced
E - Exciting
C – cute at times
T - Tantalizing
O – OMG (that counts, right?)
R - renegade

5. What has been your biggest challenge in writing your series?

Trying not to reveal everything at once. ;) When I plan a series, I usually know how it’ll end and what will happen to get there, and I’m always very impatient to finally reveal everything I’ve planned.

6. Do you plan on writing another book or series? If so, can you give us a hint to what may be coming next?

I’d love to write another book in the Variants series. I’m also working on a new YA and a middle grade!

7. If IMPOSTOR and DEFECTOR was made into a movie, who do you see playing Tessa and Alec?

That’s a difficult question for me. I don’t have certain actors in mind when I think about Tessa and Alec, but I really hope they’ll choose someone who’s a little edgy for Alec, not just a pretty face. He’s lived through a lot and it should reflect in his looks. As for Tessa, I’d love someone strong for her, but someone who has hints of vulnerability. Someone like Jennifer Lawrence.

8. Final thoughts? Is there anything you'd like to tell your fans here at Bittersweet Enchantment?

I’m so excited for YOU to finally read Defector. It’s a book that’s going to shock you and I can’t wait to hear how you feel about it.
