Book Two: Whisper of Memory
Author: Brinda Berry

Weapons training and winter formals...a deadly combination.
All Mia ever wanted was to fit in at Whispering Woods High. But being a portal-finder who dates a guy from another dimension sort of makes it hard. A month ago her brother disappeared, and agents from the IIA began policing people's movements through dimensions. She'd trusted Dr. Bleeker from the local university when he'd told her the IIA were the bad guys. But even a girl with an extraordinary ability to sense things can make mistakes.
Now two people are dead, and as a portal gatekeeper for the IIA, Mia needs to find Dr. Bleeker before he hurts anyone else. And her boyfriend Regulus, an Agent for the IIA, carries secrets of his own. Between learning about weaponry, finding the perfect dress for the winter formal, and catching bad guys, who has time to fit in?

Character Guest Post: by Mia Taylor | Whisper of Memory

My Technicolor Life
by Mia Taylor (The Waiting Booth and Whisper of Memory)

I'm a private person, so I feel a little weird telling you about this secret thing that I've been cursed with all my life. Here's the secret. I experience this physical condition called synesthesia. I have several forms of it, and it causes me to have overlaps in my sensory perception. I see, hear, taste, smell, and feel in a different way from the normal person. Sometimes, one stimuli can bring on several at once. You know how someone might say, "I smell a lie" and they don't really smell it? I might. Or I may just see the dark green glow around your head.

I know you think I'm making a big deal out of it. Why can't I just tell everybody? It's complicated. I've wanted to say to my friend Em, "You have this pink glow around your head so I know you're going to tell me something exciting." Or how about saying this to a teacher, "Hey, I get easily distracted by all the colors that come out of your mouth when you lecture in class. Then I look at the notes you have on the screen, and the sentences are like a technicolor vomit." Sorry...that was gross. I get passionate because it's so overwhelming to try to explain what it's like. And the truth is that I don't mind it so much. As a matter of fact, I thought synesthesia was normal when I was a kid. My brother Pete has it. They tested him at the university and gave the results to the teachers at school. Pete said the teachers didn't know how to treat him. So, I decided I would skip the freak show status.

Drum roll, please. Now for the "I have officially crossed over into the twilight zone" announcement of the day. I've discovered I can locate portals. We are talking interdimensional doorways. This one happens to come with some very cute guys from another dimension. How much weirder can it get? Don't answer that.
