The moment I got my hands on Mirror Deep by Joss Landry I became both excited and wary. I was excited to read this story because of the love aspect mentioned in front and back of the book. At the same time I was wary because there’s also mention of a big mystery being involved in the main plot and mysteries can either go really well or not so well at all. I actually try to steer clear of them unless other readers like that particular book too, but with Mirror Deep I took a chance all on my own (with some hints here and there) and I’m so glad that I did.
The moment I dove into the story I was definitely hooked from page one. I’d actually read a little about the equestrian side in this story and I couldn’t wait to see how exactly that would play out and contribute to the plot. By the time I finished reading this book I was definitely impressed. I have never read a book that shows how much the character, least of all the main character, loves horses and how it surrounds their whole life. In Mirror Deep it’s basically the whole theme because main character, Katherine Bonner, lives and breathes horses. It’s just part of who she is and what she does in life to contribute to the family business.
From moment one I really understood Katherine. In fact, she really reminds me of the type of person I want to be when I’m a little older. Kat is the type of person that isn’t afraid to speak her mind and say what she thinks from right and wrong. She’s also really independent and headstrong and that basically put a picture in my mind of why guys—except for one or two—would be intimidated by her. Pierce Bonner is Kat’s second cousin and the moment Kat first described him, my mind conjured up a mental image of Clark Kent minus the glasses and superpowers and instead riding a horse wearing country-esque clothes. Pierce was definitely swoon-worthy and I liked that he could have the bad boy image plus some sensibility and vulnerability when no one was watching. Lauren Bonner was another likeable character who happened to be Pierce’s sister. I really liked how she felt like Kat’s opposite; the more reasonable, supportive, and understanding out of both of them. There were other characters too, both protagonists and antagonists that I got to know throughout the story and once I started reading more about the mysterious murders it was easy to confuse who was who in both those categories. There were moments where I thought I knew who this mystery murderer was when in fact I was totally wrong. The killer was basically right in front of my face and I just couldn’t see it until I’d practically finished reading the book.
I actually thought the pacing throughout the story was pretty well done. I felt that the time I got to know the characters, to get a feel for this mystery of who the murderer was, and the time it finally came down to the possible suspect and real suspect were planned out perfectly. Even the last happy events at the end made the story feel like it was wrapped up nicely without any more questions having to be asked. Everything felt secured and it was easy to imagine Kat’s future in a happy place without her having to ever wonder about the life or people she never got to meet. That was definitely a bonus I hadn’t really been expecting.
Mirror Deep by Joss Landry was a fast paced, whirlwind of a mystery and romance novel. While starting out wary about this book, I ended up really loving this story. I liked that I knew beforehand what to expect and yet some surprises were thrown my way that kept me intrigued throughout my reading. I liked that the protagonists in the story were very likeable and sometimes reminded me of myself or people that I knew. I would have loved for the romance aspect in the story to have been a lot more since it felt like the mystery part had been concentrated on more. I liked that there were moments that kept me turning the pages at a rapid pace. Overall, I thought this story was very entertaining and suspenseful with a tad of romance in the middle. I think people who are fans of both genres should read this book because it’s well written and it keeps you guessing until the end. Fans of horses should also pick this one up because those parts in the story were well informed and definitely taught me a lot that I didn’t know about the equestrian life before. I hope more readers out there read this book and share their thoughts as well! I think more people should know what an amazing read this book is.
Totally Awesome! I loved it, would read again.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The romance did seem a bit lighter, but I kind of liked that because so many romances end up annoying me anyway. And the mystery of this one was what had me on my toes! Thanks so much for reviewing it for the blog tour!
