Indigo Awakening was not like any other book I have ever read. Which is good and bad. Let me explain why... I have never heard of author Jordan Dane until I accepted to review her novel a few months ago, so I didn't know anything about her writing style or types of books she has written in the past. I went into reading Indigo Awakening blindly, well besides loving the cover and the premise of the book. I feel I need to spilt this review into a few different parts. One being the parts I really enjoyed about the book. Two being the stuff I disliked about the book or felt needed improvement and everything in between.

The Good:

The whole idea behind the story has such great potential with even the makings of an EPIC book series, or a possible movie. I could totally see a movie being developed from the book. Indigo Awakening is pretty much about a group of misunderstood kids who excel with different psychic powers. Mind Speaking, talking to the dead and having visions of things to come are just a few of these kids rare abilities. The book begins with a strong plot and continues to get even better about 1/3 of the way through. The story the author creates is a thriller and a definite page-turning most of the time. I really enjoyed reading and learning about each of the kids special abilities and how it affect there lives and the lives around them. In retrospect I really did want to love Indigo Awakening not just "like" the book. I felt the story had such a great start and the ending was mind-blowing but the middle of the book is what kind of failed me.

The Bad:

To make this easier for me as well as you guys to understand what I did not like about the book I am going to break of this "area" of my review in two different parts. 

1. The characters.....ah yes when has we not heard this before. I felt a total disconnection with all of the characters. I wanted to like them all so much, I did. I wanted to able feel what they felt throughout the book but atlas I did not. There was just no real attraction with anything of them. I wanted to learn more about the main characters other than what fit into the storyline. Their back story was weak and overdone. 

2.  The middle of the book just flat-lined for me. At times I was downright bored and lost interested, putting down the book more often that reading it. The beginning and the ending were what made the most impact on me throughout the story. I didn't pre say force myself to read more the book, but I felt I would have been into the story if these "trouble spots" I mentioned above were different. I hope that makes sense. ;)

.....and the "hopeful"?.....

So no I did not hate this book, in fact my feelings are far from it but I definitely can see much more room for improvement within the next book in the series and while I have never read anything else by the author I may have gone into the my first book by the author with two high of expectations. If given the chance I would love to read the next book in the series once it comes out. I feel the ending of  Indigo Awakening left the book open to an amazing continuation of the series. 

I liked it a lot. Would recommend.
